The development of road transport in Vranje started after the 2nd World War, when the special department of Belgrade transportation company "Lasta" was formed. The main task of this department, with only 10 employees, was the transportation of food to the remote parts of the country in the south of Serbia. Therefore, in those early years of transportation development, there was almost no passenger transportation in this region. The only bus that was used to transport passengers traveled between Vranje - Train Station and back.
The situation stayed unchanged until 1949. Then the transport department of Belgrade Lasta was turned into a new Transportation Company. The company had 39 employees, 3 buses and 2 trucks and the administration was located in 2 rooms in Vranje. After that, on 16th August 1962, at the initiative of the Vranje municipal authorities a merger between following transportation companies took place: "Vranje" and "Tourist" from Vranje, "Surdo" from Surdulica and "Soko" from Bujanovac. In that way the transportation company „Jedinstvo“ was established with headquarters in Vranje. Two years later the company had 152 employees, 28 buses and 29 trucks. Almost all the buses were used in local transport. Working in very difficult conditions, without workshops to repair their vehicles, without a garage and adequate office space, old vehicles and bad roads, employees of "Jedinstvo" made extra efforts to enable transportation services in this region.
Due to unfavorable working conditions and economic difficulties in 1966 there was a merger between „Jedinstvo“ and "Nis Express". However in the following six months this merger did not give the desired results and it did not solve problems within the company. On the contrary, there has been a stagnation and decline in productivity and as a result of this in the following year (1967) two companies were separated. At that time "Jedinstvo" had 18 buses and 27 trucks in a very bad condition with an income of RSD 6.500.000. During 1967 and in the next year the assets were almost completely written-off due to technical malfunctions of old vehicles. The position of the company became even more difficult. In such circumstances it was necessary to make radical changes as well as to create conditions for business improvement. Therefore a turn in business policy was made by freight traffic abolition and by directing of development of passenger transportation which gave modest initial results.
In those years much better working conditions were created thanks to great efforts and sacrifices made by the employees. Modernization and expansion of the bus fleet as well as investing in new facilities was something that marked the following years. Particularly dynamic development of this organization began in the 70's. From that period until 1986 all business results have been multiplied. Total income grew to an average annual rate of 45.2%, the income of 41.6%, net income of 40.7%, salaries funds and community consumption of 39.8% and the funds to expand material work grounds and reserves at an average annual rate of 57%. Based on these results the organization was working at the top in their group. In 1974 company „Jedinstvo“ had 358 employees and 89 buses, a total income of RSD 46.500.000 million. At the same time the number of employees was increasing at a rate of 7.4 % since the company had 468 employees in 1968 and 750 in 1986. Looking at the total number of employees, there was 81.3% of qualified and highly skilled workers which means that the organization had a very good employee structure.
In accordance with the Law on Privatization, a procedure took place by which the company changed its status to a private company. On 10th March 2005 a consortium of employess participated in a public auction and in this procedure they purchased 70% of the companies assets and that explains the change in the assets ownership structure.
Since the beginning of 2008 the company "KAVIM PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION INTERNATIONAL (2002) Ltd" is the owner of the company „Jedinstvo“ Vranje.
